Currently, I view the Enterprise Architecture in my district as an entity that is essentially run by others. Even though through some committees we are allowed some form of input, I mostly receive the information of current plans and what will happen in the near future with little opportunity for input. This makes me a user of the EA currently in place rather than a designer. Thankfully, my district does have some clear set goals, such as implementing 1 to 1 technology as soon as possible and supporting the network infrastructure to do that. The plan for 1 to 1 is clear, the technology for 1 to 1 less so, we currently do not know what type of technology will be use to implement 1 to 1. Lower grades will definitely receive iPads while upper grades are undecided. IT has been responsive, upgrading networks, updating infrastructure, creating automated tech support, but the amount of technological change has kept them extremely busy.
As teachers, we are all aware of the changes, the growing pains, and struggles faced by our small district. Fortunately, there have been trainings available to better prepare us for the coming changes. I would hope that teachers have more say in the technology that gets implemented in each of our classrooms, but I do understand that IT has to find solutions that fit the overall goals of the EA our district is trying to implement.
